Studio-to-Studio Crosstalk

Overview

Some situations necessitate using audio from another studio in the organization during a broadcast or recording. Some examples include guest spots from bureau staff, handoffs to a show hosted from a different studio, and health and distancing considerations. Crosstalk can be facilitated between almost any of WPR’s studios. This guide covers the scope and processes of this capability.

Scope

WPR’s audio network provides extensive flexibility for routing audio between devices and locations. In many cases, automated routing has been configured for crosstalk, other cases involve manual setup.

Studios with consoles that connect to the IP audio network (see list below) have stored settings to facilitate crosstalk with minimal user configuration in either studio.

Studios with analog consoles (see list below) have configuration in place to route backfeeds, however, proper console bus routing must be set up by the operator in that studio for crosstalk to work as expected.

Some (not all) small production studios allow crosstalk via only the remote studio’s microphone, with no console operation necessary for the guest. Buck studio has limited crosstalk capability. Vilas recording studios are currently not setup for crosstalk with other studios.
