Windows 10 DNS

If you are experiencing issues with pages loading slowly (or not at all) you may have a DNS server configuration error, or the primary server is down and a secondary is not setup properly. In order to resolve this please follow the directions below.

Step-by-step guide

Adding a secondary DNS server.

  1. Click on the start menu and type in Control Panel
  2. Click on "View Network Status and Tasks" If you are in any other control panel view this is called the "Network and Sharing Center"

  3. Once the network and sharing center opens, click on the connection labeled "Ethernet"

  4. The "Ethernet Status" window should appear, click on Properties.
    1. you may be asked for an administrator password. If you are a local admin this should be your username and password that you login to the computer with, if you are not a local admin you will need to contact your administrator for this password.

  5. A properties window should open like the one below. Double click on "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" Another configuration window should open.

  6. The final configuration window may look like the one below, the addresses may be different but this is where we will be updating the settings.
    1. If the box labeled Alternate DNS server is empty, we will need to fill it in with your local DNS server. Please see the table below for what IP address to use.
    2. If both DNS options are entered, we will update your secondary settings to get you back online, again please use the table below to fill in your DNS settings.
